Like a specimen in a museum, a pair of orange sulfur butterfly wing specimens is pressed between two pieces of upcycled acrylic; framed in multi-colored, multi-layered enameled copper; fettered together with tiny stainless steel nuts and bolts; and hung from hand made sterling silver ear wires.
The acrylic is hand-cut, hand-sanded, and rescued from the waste-stream. The flora and fauna is picked from Albuquerque sidewalks, Rio Grande beaches, and lost back-roads—indeed the urban environment. All specimens are humanely collected from deceased insects, or sustainable plant sources. They will show signs of a life lived beautifully. The copper frames are hand-cut and playfully enameled and fired at 1450 degrees multiple times.
