Part of the "Contemporary Jewellery by Melody Armstrong" Solo Exhibition at the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery, this neckpiece was hand fabricated, techniques employed were mechanism construction, dapping, riveting, soldering, stone setting, texturing, silk knotting, and oxidizing.  Expertly textured to create a velvety touch to the dark metal surface complimented by the rich gold bands around each hand crafted bead, the faceted black onyx give a subtle sparkle in the background.  The main feature is a hollow construction, also serving as the clasp mechanism, creating a nice focal point on the neck of the wearer to be worn asymmetrically .  This piece is a great example of fine craft that has been well executed. Charcoal Velvet Beaded Neckpiece is a true testament to what is considered contemporary art jewellery.
