Being highly
inspired by her grandmother's and mother's gems and jewellery collection, and an
eye for detail, was one of the main reasons for Shivangi joining the world
of Jewellery Design. Based in central India, Shivangi Agarwal is a graduate of
India's finest design universities - the National Institute of Fashion Technology
and New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. She honed her 3D design and
rendering skills studying under esteemed professors. Her jewellery design
career began with Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers, in Jaipur where she
learned to design high-end bridal jewellery along with studying different types
of traditional jewellery making techniques and how to use them together in
designing jewels. Jaipur, being the gem capital of India, offered a plethora of
gemstone cutters and dealers. Shivangi was mesmerised by the variety of stones
and with her expertise, soon she envisioned her jewels. She started to work
with the traditional craftsmen who specialise in enamelling, jewellery making
and stone setting. Sitting for hours together with the artisans, Shivangi
gained confidence on her designs and the workmanship. Almost two years later,
'Unbent Jewellery' was born with an aim to offer demi-fine jewellery i.e.
"boutique designs" by Shivangi for the contemporary women. "I aim to create pieces that are timeless and purposeful. I always want to convey
a story through my art-pieces,"
says Shivangi.
