This form references a 2000 year old gem
setting tool used to level a gemstone in its setting. One presses onto the
boss, and so pushes the gem to position it before it is set into jewellery. The pin decorates and makes the tool, the
skill, into the worn object, giving it value and a place in history and time. Only a traditionally trained goldsmith would
recognize the shape, passed down from one to the other for generations.
