Lynn Légaré lives in Montreal. With degrees in jewelry-making and education, Lynn works for herself in her own studio. She has also been a professor the École de Joaillerie de Montréal for more than twenty-five years.
She has been selected to participate in numerous prestigious exhibitions, including "SOFA" (Sculpture Objects Functional Art + Design Fair), in New York and Chicago. She was also named "Educator of the Year” at the 2015 NICHE Awards. This honour was granted by the American Made Show in Washington, D.C.
Until very recently, Lynn designed and made only one-of-a-kind pieces for her private clientele as well as explorative pieces for exhibition purposes. Her first limited-edition series collection was created in 2017. She made the conscious decision to pare down the style so as to emphasize the essentially minimalist, even graphic aspect of the designs. Her “Axel” collection includes twenty pieces, seven of which are available for purchase in this gallery. They are made entirely by hand, constructed and assembled in her Montreal studio.
About her artistic approach, Légaré says: “Intrigued by metal and its many possible uses, I chose this material because I was fascinated by its transition through different states.I chose jewelry precisely because of its format, the subject spoke to me. Object of desire or artefact, silent witness of time and permanence, its symbolic interpretation provides meaning. Across all cultures, from yesterday to tomorrow, a history of this singular object will be passed on, regardless of the material’s nobility. Everyone has his own idea of what is precious: object or material, object and material.”
